This summer has been quite warm, but it has been pouring down most of the time here in Oslo. This has, however, a few advantages. Hydroelectric electricity will be cheaper the coming winter. And the forests are full of mushrooms. You don’t have to go far to fill you baskets.

We have picked many kilos of Craterellus tubaeformis or Funnel Chantarelle. Most of it is now safely in the freezer after being sautéed in its own juice. Some of it is for the dinner table. What to drink with it? Perhaps it is time to try the new India Saison from Nøgne Ø? Brewed in cooperation with Bridge Road Brewers in Australia, who also brought some Australian hops, according to the label.

I’ve never heard about Aussie rules football, and I don’t intend to go deeper into the matter, either. (Feel fre to comment on the post if you’re dying to share information on the topic!)

This photo shows that the main focus is not on a round (or oval) ball, but on the refreshements connected to the event. I don’t think we are talking about enjoying quality brews in moderation here.

True athletes

The Age newspaper, published in Melbourne, Australia, salutes the Russian biathlon world team, who know how to celebrate in style.

Oh, for the days when sportsmen and women celebrated triumphs in the proper way, rather than racing off for ice baths and sessions with an analyst. Demetri Iarochenko and Ekaterina Iourieva of Russia have just won the biathlon world team challenge at Gelsenkirchen in Germany, and somebody, most likely a sponsor, slipped them this huge glass of beer. What else for a couple of Russians competing and winning in Germany?


And they will need a beer in Melbourne, too. The weatherman says 30°C.
