The Swedish small brewers joined forces last year, setting up Föreningen Sveriges Småbryggerier. They are having their first annual meeting this Saturday – and at the same time they are organizing a festival named Big Beers – Small Breweries – offering 50 beers from the 19 micros.
The events are taking place in Eskilstuna. More information at Eskilstuna Ôlkultur AB. The following breweries will be there with their beers on tap (some on cask):
Sigtuna Brygghus, Monks Cafe, Strömsholms brygghus, Grebbestad, Irish pub, Eskilstuna Ölkultur, Nynäshamns ångbryggeri, Oppigårds bryggeri, Hantverksbryggeriet, Ölands Gårdsbryggeri, Skebo Bruksbryggeri, Dugges, The Nils Oscar Company AB and Närke kulturbryggeri.
Details of the beers in a pdf on the web site. Some of the breweries are brewpubs, making this a rare opportunity to sample their beers. The Irish Pub in Sundsvall, way up North on Sweden’s Eastern coast, is particularly worth mentioning as well as the hosts.
I miss Oceanbryggeriet and Jämtland from the list, I assume they are members.
I hope this will be a regular event, if so it will be worth adding to the calendar. If I had known this would be so comprehensive, I would have tried to plan a visit this year.
Not that this is a members only festival – you have to e-mail the organisers to get an invite.
Thanks to Magnus for informing about this. I think we need to make a Nordic calendar of beer events.
