Someone called the IRI has compiled a list of what they call the top 15 new beer brands in the US. It is obvious that beer and alcopops are thought of as being the same thing. I envisage that lists like this are compiled by serious young men in dark suits who get their buzz from low carb beverages.
The winners:

Not much for a beer dog here, is it? I politely ask them to keep their pomegranate fusion to themselves. Our only glimmer of hope seems to be number 12, the Alaskan IPA.
But it seems like the teenagers of the US have been amply supplied with beverages to make them drunk and then sick. As ususal. In my day we had to mix the vodka with pineapple juice ourselves. And the Bacardi and Coke were in separate bottles.
I think their predictive models are crap. Their 30 best performers are based on supermarket sales only, that leaves out a large amount of states which do not have beer sales in supermarkets. Their criteria for top new brands is not described, so in my professional opinion as a business reference librarian this is hokum. They derive most of their data based upon only one pipeline and attempt to extrapolate it to the entire market. If they really wanted to make predictive analysis of the beer market in the US they would track beer sales at bars and restauarants as well. Many beer brands built their buzz by selling well in bars first –> Blue Moon case in point. They got the tap lines first and then expanded to the supermarkets.
I think for 2008 Lakemaid Beer will be added to that list.
Check out their website: http://www.lakemaidbeer.com.
It’s a beer from Rapala fishing lures and Schell’s. If the beer tastes as good as the website looks, it will be a hit.

Hahaha, thanks for sharing.
At least the names are amusing:
“New Belgium Fat Tire Amber Ale”
“Mike’s Hard Light Cranberry Lemonade”
Unbelievable!
Yeah, Lakemaid looks pretty cool! But couldn’t they have done a little better on the TV commercial? Looks like 2 fifth-graders on a shoestring budget put that one together! Still, could be great – can’t wait to try it!
