According to beerticker.dk, who also quotes various Danish media, one of the pioneers behind the Danish craft beer movement, Anders Kissmeyer, has been fired by the owners of Nørrebro Bryghus.
Despite a wide range of inventive beers, collaborations with brewers around the world and a high media profile, the brewery has been losing money at an alarming rate. Both in 2007 and 2008 the deficit was about one million Euros.
Kissmeyer, who founded the brewery in 2000, will still be used as a consultant by the company, but the details of his future status do not seem to be finalized.

That’s a pretty large deficit. Am I right in thinking that Anders is like the face of Nørrebro? Could leaving him on the side impact the perception of the brewery?
Isn’t the sadder news that no one has been minding the store? Sounds like the Icelandic route to wealth management.
You’ve got a point Alan, they should have made some changes before they ran out of money. maybe they should hve stuck to the brewpub and not established the bottling plant.
And only days after Pete Brown’s visit – I’m sure it must be his fault.

Anders told me when we had dinner together – it had happened just a few days before.
His view at the time was that he would continue to be the face of the brewery – he’s still on the board and still has an ownership interest.
He was also being positive about it – while in this situation it would always be far more preferable to have made the decision yourself rather than have it made for you, he seemed like a man genuinely relieved to have a weight lifted from him.
The beer dinner the Beer Widow and I had with him was sensational. I had no idea their financial performance had been so bad, but while there may be trendier names to drop in the northern European brewing scene these days, Norrebro beers remain utterly outstanding, and the Brygghus itself is pretty much the perfect brew pub.
