Sure, I could think of more than two if hard pressed, but here we go.
It is St George’s Day. As an anglophile, I ought to observe this.
It is the 493th birthday of the Reinheitsgebot. The Bavarian Duke Wilhelm IV made his decree in Ingoslstadt all those years ago. This means it has, in more recent times, been declared the day of German beer. Der Tag des deutschen Bieres.
This would imply an English lager, but I don’t have any drinkable beers in that category available. So there will be an English ale and a German lager tonight.
But not in a nice pub like this.

The blinky gaming machines do a lot to destroy the niceness of English pubs. How much would beer duty have to be cut before pubs could get rid of them?
I’m considering a Scottish Ale for later…
Good pubs don’t normally have gaming machines. If I may say, the place in the photo doesn’t look appealing at all! And what’s worse, it’s in Manchester!
This means I have been in very few good pubs in England. I always got sent to the wrong places (Aylesbury! Hah!).
Sorry, I could have picked a better photo! When is Scotland’s national day, then?
But the beer in the pic was really nice. From Copper Dragon.
St. Andrew’s day is celebrated on 30 November I believe, but maybe Burns’ Night (25th Jan?) is more appropriate
We can have a BrewDog beer at both dates, can’t we, lads?
If I could get the shagging things here I would.
Their trashy blonde is even in Norwegian supermarkets now. Well, one or two supermarkets..
I actually wrote to them to see if they had any German importers, but the answer was no. They asked if I had any contacts. I sent the only one I knew of, but heard nothing back. A long shot by far.
I could always buy them from their site, but delivery is probably mucho euro.
They send beer to bloggers for free. Ask them nicely. Tell them I sent you.
Free as in free beer? Or free delivery? Actually, either is brilliant. How does one take up such an offer? I’d love to run a blind tasting of BrewDog beers on a German audience. Completely blind, not even knowing where the beers came from.
Send them encouranging e-mails. Start two years ago when they were nobodies. Er..
Tell them, simply, that you want to spread the gospel and blog about their beers. Their whole marketing strategy is built around social media like ratebeer and blogs.
Done! Thanks for the tip, Knut. Of course a bunch of other bloggers reading this are probably spamming the crap outta their mailboxes now.
With a couple of whisky fanatics in the office, I’d love to get them to do a test drive of a few of the Paradox releases, possibly alongside whisky from the corresponding distilleries (I’m 99% sure these guys would have them).
Get in touch with beermerchants concerning the Thronbridge barrel aged beers, too. Phils says he’s happy to cooperate with bloggers to promote the beers….
I dragged some home from England, maybe I’ll open some during the weekend..
I’m shy about sending begging letters really, but screw it
There are only a couple of places here in Muenster that sell UK beers, with one selling mostly Theakstons and Black Sheep beers (a Yorkshire bar!). I have all sorts of ideas for tasting sessions for colleagues, but getting the ammunition is tough. At the very least, it’s entertaining for me though
Ta muchly, I’ll pop them a begging letter tomorrow
