A major problem is that Central and Eastern Europe, including Russia, has growth in the beer market while Western Erupe stagnates. But I would prefer that they would focues on India or China isntead, where there are no good beer tradiditons to destroy and where they could push their pale lager to countless millions.

The influence of Carlsberg and Heineken in places like the Czech Republic and the Baltic region make me feel sympathetic to any "better beer" lovers there who are worried about losing the last remaining vestiges of the good stuff.

I recently posted about Heineken's takeover of Drinks Union, but the goings-on in the Baltic fascinate me as well. Your travels are always quite interesting, so let us know what else you come across and how the rest of the beer market there looks.
